There were fistpumps-a-plenty in Wolfgang HQ last week as Google announced another new AdWords ad extension.
We love Ad Extensions because:
1/ They are a great way to serve the searcher richer information about your offering. So the right people come to your website with the right intention. 2/ They are a great way to differentiate your message from the competition. I’m sure you will agree that there’s nothing useful about a dozen adwords ads all stating “Best Price Guarantee – Book online”.
What are Review Extensions?
Review extensions will appear below your ad on Google’s search engine results page, just like sitelink extensions. A review extension will contain a line from the review and a link to the third party reviewer (don’t worry you won’t pay for clicks to the reviewing website). The review must be from a “reputable” source in order to be published, but what does and doesn’t qualify as a “reputable” source remains to be seen.
Why Review Extensions are great!
1/ Trust. People trust your customers more than they trust you! Have a look at the 2 most trusted information sources in the Nielsen study below.
The most important feeling you can engender in potential customers online is trust. Trust is what transforms your website from a collection of pixels to an entity people feel comfortable giving their credit card details to. By winning people’s trust on the search results page you stand a far higher chance of bringing them to your website and then converting them into customers. 2/ Google Endorsement. Another significant benefit here is that people really trust Google. By having a recommendation displayed on Google, by Google it has far more credibility than it does on your website alone. 3/ “Bigger is better”. Ad extensions allow you to take up more valuable Google real estate, the Machiavellian among you will be rubbing your hands with glee as you push your competitors down the SERPS
First Mover Advantage
We’ve seen time and time again that the first advertisers to integrate these new features “as & when” they are released benefit from an extravagant lift in traffic & conversions. We cant wait to get our teeth into them!
